Dawn breaks over the Oaxaca Sierra, finding Alfredo Ruiz at the pedal loom. He weaves the heavy wool rug that is rich in Zapotec artistry. Ruiz obtains the colors from natural sources including cochineal for the red hues and indigo for the blue.
