Inspired by the conquista of the Americas by the Spaniards, Mexican artist Jose Martin Levario creates this energetic and thought-provoking composition. In a deadly embrace, a pre-Hispanic warrior dressed as a hawk wrestles with a Spanish knight as they stab each other with their spears, swords, and knives. The artist hopes to express the fusion of two different races with this composition, realized with a technique known as popotillo, where dyed stems of the silver beardgrass plant are diligently applied to paper. This artwork arrives within a wood frame.

"Even better looking in real life"
I like cats and I like ethnic art, and this piece combined the two in an appealing way, using dyed grass stems to create the picture. What the photos online cant convey, however, is the way the medium shimmers in the light, giving it a vibrancy and dimensionality that cant come through on a computer monitor. I couldnt be happier with this purchase!
