“My name is Meta Nuci Ferawati. People call me Nuci. I was born in Semarang, Central Java, in 1969. My father was a lecturer and my mother was a housewife.
“My friends describe me as a disciplined and generous person who is always on time. I am married and already have two children. Life as a parent is very complex, full of love, and cheerful. Being able to witness my children grow is the best thing in my life.
“During the 70s, my childhood was full of fun, playing traditional games that we made ourselves. I spent kindergarten through high school in Semarang, then I studied at Gajah Mada University, a farming faculty.
“My studies were far from being my passion. When I was in elementary school I liked to cook, so when I was 17 years old I started selling the things I made to my friends. When I was 20 years old, I started to sell my cooking and cakes to more people, and even received orders.
“Today, I work in eco-printing, which reminds me that through nature, God has given us everything we need. Through leaves and plants, God tells us that each of his creations is beneficial to the others. This is what I keep sharing with my friends.
“My pieces are naturally beautiful due to the natural materials, the silk itself, and the colors derived from leaves and plants. Our only challenge is dealing with the seasons and weather, because the colors of nature change according to temperature and moisture. I use leaves that I find in my garden, backyard, and around the neighborhood.
“Now that my children are grown up, I don’t have to worry about them as much. They can take care of themselves. Now, I am more involved in social activities, sharing my time with low-income mothers. Moments like these make me feel the most fulfilled, because I can share what I have and make others happy.”
