"I was inspired by the fans that the Royal Family and other dignitaries use, which I saw on exhibit when I visited the Ashanti King's Manyea Palace, in Kumasi," confides Robert Aidoo-Taylor. To craft this extraordinary fan, he covers a vinyl board with cotton printed with red, black and brown waves. Aidoo-Taylor decorates the wood handle with rattan and polyester cords. Where the fan and handle meet, Aidoo-Taylor crafts a traditional Ashanti mask representative of the tribe's physical traits.
