"Functional"

The multi-pocket design works for field photography/hiking activities. Equipment for both activities is close at hand and quickly accessible in the pockets. I have not yet had the opportunity to use the jacket in wet-weather conditions to test the water resistance. The only changes that I recommend are incorporation of one larger pocket (larger than the largest pocket currently incorporated into the design), and a hood that can be rolled into the collar of the jacket. This is an all-around nice jacket.

"Great Fit"

With airline travel and carryon restrictions "tightening" it is helpful to have a jacket/vest to load up with small stuff. I travel for photo opts and getting all camera equipment in carryon sometimes is a challenge. I wear a 40-42 sport coat and have ~33" sleeves. Despite some reviews, I found the sizing and sleeve length perfect on the large one that I ordered. Could have used a few larger pockets, but this will "fill the bill" as I'd hoped when ordered.

"Not an expedition jacket"

First the good news. This is a nicely made jacket with quality material and handiwork. I purchased mine for an extended rail trip from Beijing to St. Petersburg with a 2 week stopover in Mongolia. The multiple pockets and convertible vest struck me as being versatile and practical in different climates. Now the critique. This is not an expedition jacket, and, although it could be, the problem is with the design. Although it has lots of pockets many of them seem to be more an expression by the designer trying to show off how many different pockets s/he could make with little regard to function. Passport pocket is OK, ticket pocket barely so (tickets come in different shapes and sizes in different countries), the cellphone pocket will not fit a Samsung Galaxy S5, the sleeve pockets hold a pack of cigarettes and a lighter if you smoke; but, who wants to fiddle with six zippered pockets? The cargo pockets are too small (and one of them is zippered) while the rest are real head-scratchers as to what their purpose could possibly be unless you are packing numerous small items that you really don't want to get at. The worst part for me was with all the pockets, none were designed to hold a pair of readers or sunglasses. Perfect however for walking the dog in fair weather and packing a few doggie biscuits.

"Size chart has to be wrong"

I would have bought this jacket but according to this size chart, no adult will fit into this jacket. The size chart says the chest sizes are 25 - 29 (no units such as inches given). A normal adult large T-shirt wearer has about a 36 inch chest. The sleeve lengths are appropriate for adults, not kids. And bottom hem width? Give me some clue as to where this is measured. Until they fix this web site, you don't know what you will get.

"Great travel jacket"

Purchased for trip to Iraq where it's important to keep all important documents with you at all times. There are pockets for everything. When going through TSA can keep everything in coat pockets and put coat in one bin. Easy off, easy through. Pockets even hold water bottles if you can stand the bulk. With removable sleeves it's great for fall travel, not sure about summer heat yet. Iraq can be above 115 degrees so not sure of comfort then. Sleeves come off quickly but adding them takes a little more work.

"Nice jacket but not enough large pockets"

I bought this jacket for both travel and daily use during cool weather. The jacket is well made and of good material but not well thought out IMHO and is no substitute for carry on luggage (except, perhaps, photographers or other professions that use a lot of very small items). Most pockets are too small to hold anything larger than about 3 inches in width or heighth. The location of the cell phone pocket is inside and below the waist which is not very convenient. Also, the slots for pens/pencils are undersized and only the thinnest (1/4" or so) writing implement will fit. Oh, and due to shipping it costs about 18% more than advertised.

"Great Travel Jacket"

It is a gift for my husband. He gets stuck carrying his stuff and mine when we travel. He loves all the pockets (and I do, too). Haven't been any where to need it yet but it will come in handy later this year. Being able to remove the sleeves will keep him comfortable whatever the weather. I don't expect any complaints about this purchase.

"Mission Trip Approved!"

I purchased this jacket last-minute for a mission trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I always cringe when it comes to sizing with online purchases... especially given the reviews already posted. Short version, fit "exactly" as I would expect. For clarification, I am an XXL American and the XXL delivered fit just like I would expect here in the States. Since I traveled into the slums of the city, the pockets were essential, plenty to choose from to secure my items. I would have liked a couple of additional large zippered pockets as most on this jacket are small (or are large velcro pockets). An inside, zippered, chest pocket would have been delightful to stash my passport & cash. Even in the hot humidity of the island, I was comfortable as the jacket sleeves zip off and the liner is mesh. Ideal weather for this jacket is a "cooler" climate, but I chose functionality over all else. Jacket is well made and stylish. Shoulders are slightly too wide for a vest (when sleeves removed), but not enough to worry about. If you travel with lots of "stuff" like cell phone, passport, camera, trinkets, sunscreen, sunglasses, pens, pads, etc., you will love the jacket... even will hold a small tablet.

"Not true to size"

Extremely large. I always buy my husband XL but this was soooo big! I think it was a 3X!!! The worse part is how much it costs to mail it back. This is why I hate buying online. Not very cost effective when you get charged so much for returns. It adds to the cost of the product. I think you should have the option of a preprinted return label at no charge. I'm trying a different size and hope it fits.

"SIZE CHART IS OK"

A previous reviewer criticises the Size Chart. The size chart is OK. Measurements are in inches (as usual in the USA) and the chest measurements are 'pit to pit' when measured across the front of the jacket with the zips closed. The sleeve and hem measurements are self-explanatory. Overall, this is a very conventional method of measurement - the reviewer's criticism is unwarranted.

When it arrived, I thought it was way too large. When I tried it on, it was just about right. It's much heavier than I thought. It is also very warm. Will probably take the sleeves off a lot! I plan to take it on a fishing trip to Canada in August and give it a workout!

"A real deal"

I've been a professional photographer for over fifty years. In that time I have owned about a dozen working vests. I've even tried vests for fly fishing, hunting and yes, vests specialized for photography. With today's restrictions on just how much we carry in our carry-on luggage and being a photographer, you have to chose what to carry in your carry-on luggage and how much you can carry in your checked luggage. I NEVER put photography equipment in my checked baggage as it will"grow legs". I also avoid "Thieves Row", also known as Heathrow in Britain because they have a real lack of security, even going through their security. What's a person to do? Carry as much as possible on your person so it's not out of yours sight, except when it goes through the X Ray machine. Even in Paris, when leaving, it's really interesting how they want to make sure that lenses are lenses. So i put as much as possible in my various vests and jackets. Yes, we used specialized photo bags such as Kata and the think Tank International line of bags. However we still need more room. This vests really fills the bill for its ability to put 24 ounces into a 16 ounce can. I bought this model with the zip off sleeves because the convertibility of the vest/ jacket. I've worn out pockets carrying other stuff and this jacket really wears like iron and with the mesh liner, it is reasonably cool.

I measured an existing jacket that fits me well under the arms. 47". Your size chart indicated a size Large was 47" chest size. The jacket arrived and fit me perfectly in the body. The SLEEVES however were absurdly short! They were 3" above my watch! I have regular arm length, 32" sleeves on my shirts.

"Great product if you can get the right size"

The sizing seems to be way off. No small size and the medium seems very large. I bought a medium size as a gift and it was just a little tight. I think a large would have been way to large. There doesn't seem to be a size that is between medium and large that really should be called medium. I would consider that the person that I bought the jacket to be a large but not as large as the one you are calling large It is a very good product other than the sizing problem.

"Good on all accounts, but found on comfortable."

I use the jacket for a lot of travel to developing countries, mainly for the plane itself. Overall jacket good, and will probably suit most peoples needs, but I found it uncomfortable and it felt more like a wearing a rain coat or tyvek suit to me, even though 70% cotton. I would recommend it with this qualifier.

"Airport Security Line Security Blanket"

I carry a large number of small items at all times in my pockets. I used to have to "get undressed" to go through security lines at airports. Now I load up all my stuff in the convertible travel jacket while in the convenience and privacy of my home. When it is my turn I simply dump my jacket into a bin and send it through the machine. Thank you National Geo for offering this item. The ability to remove the sleeves is a marvel because I frequently start my trip in cold weather and arrive in the heat (and vice versa).
