Woven on a backstrap loom, this beautiful scarf takes its colors from natural dyes. Clementina Vasquez demonstrates the Guatemalan art of jaspe, a form of ikat weaving in which the threads are tie dyed before placing them on the loom. White diamonds form orderly rows on brown cotton.

Clementina Vasquez has received 3 microcredit loans with 0% interest from Kiva and Novica, the first for $200 and the most recent for $300. Proceeds were used to invest in the purchase of natural materials such as tree bark and cochineal to prepare her own dyes, as well as cotton threads, to increase production in time for the holiday season.
