Details

Its cheeks glowing with the colors of an early morning sky, this mask honors the Fanti people's god of dawn. According to their beliefs, the god of dawn must be prayed to early every morning to keep them safe from an enemy's attack. With that end, the Fanti people wear similar masks to this one, replicated with fine grace in a design by Nana Adu Amankwapam I. Solemnly expressive, the sese wood mask is adorned with brass motifs and colorful beads.

I just received the Northern Ghanaian Warrior. Absolutely beautiful work. Every piece of art: carvings, drawings, sculptures, etc. is art only when the soul of the artist can be felt within the work. That is exactly how I feel about this piece. Thank you...it will be cherished, well cared for and displayed prominently.
