Details

By Ixbalam Ke Women Weavers of Guatemala, this graceful cotton top is woven by hand on the backstrap loom. The blouse showcases a butterfly motif in the traditional pic bil technique. This involves laying in thicker threads where the patterns are desired, giving the textile the appearance of embroidery. The work is so laborious that such a top takes some two weeks to finish. Decorative thread work links each of the two pieces of fabric.
